Dark Meat Leftovers: Not Stirred

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

Pour yourself a stiff one on the rocks and sit back – Dark Meat’s goin’ a-boozin’ and a-carousin’! Try to figure out the verb form of “dissolute” as you enjoy these tunes:

* Combustible Edison – Theme to The Tiki Wonder Hour
* Jefferson Airplane – White Rabbit
* They Might Be Giants – Drink!
* Ani Di Franco – I Know This Bar
* David Bowie – Joe The Lion
* Foo Fighters – Baker Street
* Tom Waits – The Piano Has Been Drinking
* Johnny Cash – Hurt
* Stan Ridgway – The Coffee Song

Dark Meat 165: Médecins Sans Joie

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

Today’s show is all about illness and doctors and stuff.

* Sugarplastic – Ottowa Bonesaw
* Steely Dan – Doctor Wu
* Suzanne Vega – Bad Wisdom
* Leonard Cohen – Ain’t No Cure For Love
* Devo – The Day My Baby Gave Me A Surprize
* Asteroids Galaxy Tour – Bad Fever
* Sparks – Achoo
* Scott Walker – The Plague
* Dr. Samuel Hoffman – Deep Purple/S’Wonderful

Technical note: alert listeners may notice an intermittent clicking sound on my announce tracks. This is perfectly normal and nothing to be ashamed of! To tell the truth, it’s the result of an experiment involving trying to record the announce portion of the show in my walk in closet, which is the quietest place in my apartment. Unfortunately, I can’t take my iMac in there, so I’m forced to use my Dell Mini 9 Hackintosh which doesn’t quite seem to have the processing muscle to handle this work. I’ll try something else next time.

While I’m at it, a correction: Dr. Hoffman was actually a podiatrist, not a chiropractor. I was thinking of the guy who body-doubled Bela Lugosi in PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE.

Dark Meat 164: That’s Strange

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

Since the theme of the show is self-explanatory, I’d like to use this space to encourage Americans to calmly and intelligently debate health-care issues.

* ELO – Strange Magic
* Billie Holiday – Strange Fruit
* Colorblind James and the Death Valley Boys – Strange Sounds From the Basement
* Joe Jackson – Stranger Than You
* Steely Dan – Sign In Stranger
* Kevin Ayers – Friends and Strangers
* Sparks – Strange Animal
* Vera Lynn – We’ll Meet Again
